ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday welcomed ongoing technical-level talks between Iran and the United States, expressing hope that the negotiations would lead to positive outcomes and pave the way for stronger economic cooperation with Tehran.
Speaking at a weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said discussions held in Switzerland had already opened a path toward easing international sanctions on Iran. He noted that technical talks, temporarily paused, would resume next week and described the continued engagement between Washington and Tehran as an encouraging sign.
Andrabi said progress in Pakistan-Iran trade, investment and economic projects would depend on the gradual lifting of sanctions on Iran. He added that diplomatic efforts were also expected to ease tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Afghanistan, he reiterated Pakistan’s demand that Afghan territory must not be used for terrorist activities against Pakistan and acknowledged China’s constructive role in regional diplomacy.
The spokesperson also highlighted Pakistan’s mediation efforts in Iran-US talks and its continued engagement for regional peace and stability.
