Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday accused India of increasingly relying on covert operations and proxy groups to undermine peace and stability in Pakistan, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to peace, diplomacy and regional cooperation.
Addressing the passing-out parade at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, the prime minister said Pakistan was facing complex security challenges driven by both internal and external threats. He claimed that after what he described as India’s defeat in the May conflict last year, New Delhi had intensified indirect efforts to disrupt Pakistan’s hard-earned stability through covert means.
He also said Pakistan’s armed forces continued to combat foreign-sponsored terrorism along the western border and praised the nation’s unity in supporting the military. Despite these challenges, he stressed that Pakistan remained committed to resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy while continuing its support for the people of Kashmir and Palestine.
Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic role, the premier said the country had contributed to regional peace by mediating between the United States and Iran, leading to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He also commended Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for his efforts in advancing peace initiatives.
Speaking on maritime security, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the evolving regional environment had made secure sea routes and freedom of navigation essential for global trade. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Pakistan Navy through modern technologies, including artificial intelligence and unmanned systems.
Congratulating the graduating naval officers, including cadets from several friendly countries, he urged them to uphold the values of courage, discipline, integrity and loyalty as they prepared to serve in an increasingly complex security environment.
