KARACHI: Three Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) personnel were martyred on Saturday night while defending a Rangers camp in Karachi against a terrorist assault claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, the Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed on Sunday.
According to ISPR, the attackers detonated explosives at the camp’s main gate before attempting to breach its perimeter. Rangers troops responded swiftly, killing three terrorists and capturing a fourth in an injured condition. The arrested suspect was identified as an Afghan national. Four Rangers personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. Sanitisation operations were subsequently launched to clear the surrounding area.
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir expressed condolences to the martyred personnel’s families, saying their sacrifices deepened the nation’s resolve against terrorism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and paid tribute to the fallen Rangers, vowing counterterrorism operations would continue until terrorism was fully eradicated. President Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the assault, describing Jamaat-ul-Ahrar as an Indian proxy organisation, and pledged that foreign-backed terrorist elements would never succeed. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the Rangers’ swift and effective response.
The military reaffirmed that security operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign would press forward until all perpetrators were brought to justice.
