Trump Officials Propose Charging More Than $100,000 for Skilled Worker Visas

[post-views]

The Trump administration proposed a new, steep fee for visas granted to skilled foreign workers on Monday, the latest move in its ongoing effort to overhaul the H-1B visa programme.

Under the proposal, the Department of Homeland Security would attach a $103,265 fee to the visa, echoing a similar attempt last year to impose a $100,000 fee on new H-1B applications. That earlier effort ran into legal trouble: a federal judge struck down the fee in June, a ruling the federal government said it would appeal.

Critics view the new proposal as another attempt to reinstate the fee despite the ongoing legal challenges. If finalised, it would apply far more broadly than before, carrying significant implications for businesses across the country that depend on the H-1B programme to fill critical roles.
