KARACHI: According to reliable sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Friday that the party’s issues will be addressed by tonight.
The development occurred during a phone call between PM Shehbaz and MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, after the party’s threat to leave the coalition if its concerns were not addressed.
The MQM-P, an ally of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), had called on the prime minister two days ago to take a clear position whether he had any respect for the people of Urban Sindh, or the party will determine its future in the ruling coalition.
To address the MQM-concerns, the Sindh government sought a postponement of elections early Friday, but the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) chose to hold local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad as scheduled.
