ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reached out to the United States to inquire about the potential ramifications of its sanctions on Iran on the long-pending gas pipeline initiative, a high-ranking official from the Energy Ministry revealed to The Republic Policy News.
The official disclosed that the ministry has informally raised this concern on multiple occasions, with State Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik also raising the matter during his recent visit to the US and meetings with American officials in Qatar.

“During his return journey, he made it a point to discuss the possible impact of US sanctions on Iran and its implications for Pakistan’s IP gas line project,” the official added.
Previously, Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, had also engaged with US authorities to address the issue.
“Thus far, the US has yet to provide a response,” noted the official, emphasizing that Pakistan requires a clear stance from the American government to reach a conclusive decision regarding this crucial undertaking.
