Human rights are basic rights that belong to all of us simply because we are humans. They embody key values in our society such as fairness, dignity, equality and respect. They give us power and enable us to speak up when we’re treated unfairly by a public authority.
They also protect vulnerable groups from abuse, allow people to stand up to societal corruption, encourage freedom of speech and expression, give people the freedom to practice their religion or not, and allow people to love who they choose. The constitution of Pakistan guarantees fundamental rights raging from article 8 to articles 28.

Human rights are critical for Pakistan because they are requisite to the possibility of a just society. Pakistan’s constitution guarantees fundamental rights, such as the right to life and liberty, the right to a fair trial, and protection against retrospective punishment and self-incrimination. However, these rights are often violated or ignored by the authorities and other actors. Some of the human rights issues in Pakistan include attacks on civil society, freedom of religion, children’s rights, women’s rights, refugees, terrorism, forced disappearances, and freedom of expression.

Pakistan can adopt various strategies to ensure human rights, such as:
1.
Strengthening the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary
2.
Holding accountable those responsible for human rights violations
3.
Reforming laws and policies that discriminate against minorities and women
4.
Promoting education and awareness on human rights among the public and officials
5.
Cooperating with international human rights mechanisms and implementing their recommendations
6.
Supporting civil society organizations and human rights defenders
7.
Fostering dialogue and tolerance among different religious and ethnic groups
8.
Addressing the root causes of poverty, inequality, and violence

Pakistan has judicial access to fundamental rights. Article 199 read with article 184 (3) empower judiciary to enforce human fundamental rights. Then, there is often executive denial to human rights in Pakistan. Human rights in Pakistan is a complex issue. There are social, cultural & administrative human rights denials.

Judiciary in Pakistan must play it’s role to enforce human rights in Pakistan. It’s the fundamental obligation of the judiciary to ensure provision of the access to human rights. Then, the society should also play it’s role not only to create awareness but also provide social support to the institutions to ensure application of the human rights in Pakistan.
