No civilian under trial in military courts, AGP tells Supreme Court

[post-views]

Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan informed the Supreme Court that no civilian was being tried in military courts on Tuesday.

The AGP claimed during the hearing of the petitions filed against the trial of civilians in military courts.

On Monday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial asked the AGP to “reassure” him that no such trial would occur as long as the case was being heard in the court.

The AGP said that no trial of civilians was currently underway.

But, the AGP’s claim contradicted the army media wing’s assertions on Monday evening.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told a media briefing that proceedings against 102 people handed over for trial were already underway.
