In a significant development, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah hinted on Monday that the dissolution of assemblies could take place prior to the scheduled date of August 13 in order to “facilitate” the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
During an appearance on the Geo News program ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath,’ Minister Sanaullah expressed that advancing the dissolution to August 11, instead of August 13, would provide the ECP with ample time to conduct elections. This response came in light of queries regarding the ruling party’s alleged intention to postpone elections until November.
With unwavering conviction, he emphasized that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its leader, Nawaz Sharif, firmly believed in the timely dissolution of assemblies and the prompt conduct of elections.
It is worth noting that the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies were dissolved by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) back in January. However, the legislatures in Sindh and Balochistan, along with the National Assembly, are yet to undergo dissolution.
