Despite Ukraine’s determined campaign to reclaim territories in the eastern and southern regions, which were seized by Russian forces during their invasion in February 2022, military analysts have pointed out that the journey has been fraught with obstacles.

The primary focus has been on retaking villages in the southeastern areas, pushing forward towards the Sea of Azov, and reclaiming control of regions near the eastern city of Bakhmut, which succumbed to Russian forces in May following prolonged clashes.
Russian sources have boasted about successfully repelling Ukrainian assaults in the eastern Donetsk region, particularly in and around Bakhmut.
