U.S. President Joe Biden is set to sign a significant strategic partnership agreement with Vietnam during an upcoming state visit to the Southeast Asian nation in mid-September. This development was reported by Politico on Friday, citing information from three individuals familiar with the planning of the agreement.

The strategic partnership agreement is expected to foster new avenues of collaboration between the two nations, with a particular focus on advancing Vietnam’s high technology sector. Areas of cooperation will encompass semiconductor production and the development of artificial intelligence, as outlined in the Politico report.

A source who is knowledgeable about the plans confirmed to Reuters on Friday that President Biden is considering a trip to Vietnam in September.

Earlier this month, President Biden expressed his intention to visit Vietnam in the near future, citing the country’s eagerness to strengthen its ties with the United States and emerge as a significant partner.

However, it’s important to note that the White House has not officially confirmed the details of the trip at this time. Additionally, as of Saturday, Vietnam’s foreign ministry had not responded to requests for comment on the matter, and Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang had neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of President Biden’s visit when questioned on Thursday.
