Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Rare Visit to Washington Signals Thaw in China-U.S. Relations

[post-views]

China’s top diplomat is commencing discussions on Thursday in Washington as he lays the groundwork for a potential summit between Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden. In the lead-up to the talks, Biden has expressed his commitment to defending Asian allies.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi is embarking on a rare, high-level visit to Washington, where the world’s two largest economies are striving to manage, if not entirely resolve, a multitude of disputes that have periodically escalated tensions in recent years.

Wang’s visit kicks off with a meeting with Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Blinken had traveled to Beijing in June and will now host his counterpart for a private dinner.
