On Friday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan officially confirmed the date for the upcoming general election, setting it for February 8, in line with the decision previously made by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and President Dr. Arif Alvi.
This decision came after the apex court, on the previous day, took up the matter of scheduling the elections within 90 days. The court, aware of the urgency of the situation, urged all stakeholders, including the attorney general, to promptly convene a meeting and swiftly reach a consensus on the election date.
During the Friday session, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, presided over the hearing. The attorney general presented the minutes of the meeting held between the president and the ECP, along with the relevant correspondence regarding the election date.
The case is being heard by a three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minallah. Earlier in the proceedings, the court granted a short break to allow the attorney general time to provide the minutes of the meeting between the president and the election commission.
