Smog emergency enforced in four districts including Lahore

LAHORE: The Punjab government decided to declare a holiday in Lahore Division, Gujranwala and Hafizabad on Friday and Saturday due to the worsening smog situation and imposed a health emergency.

An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi regarding the prevention of smog, after which Mohsin Naqvi, while holding a press conference in the Chief Minister’s House, said that the pollution in Lahore has increased to an alarming level, crop residues in India. Due to burning, more effects of pollution are being set on Lahore.

In the meeting, it was decided that November 9 is a holiday in the whole country and on the 10th, a holiday notification will be issued to the smog-prone districts of Punjab.

The Punjab Chief Minister said that section 144 will be enforced in the affected districts while hotels, parks and cinemas will also be closed.

Mohsin Naqvi said that all these decisions are for this week. On Friday, the Meteorological Department has predicted rain, which will be beneficial in dealing with smog.
