Govt hikes petrol price by Rs2.73 per litre

The caretaker government has increased the price of petrol by Rs 2 73 paise and the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs 8 37 paise per liter for the next fortnight.

Now the new price of petrol is Rs 275.65 and diesel is Rs 287.33 per litre.

In a late night announcement, the finance ministry said the government has decided to revise the existing prices of petroleum products during the fortnight starting February 16 as per the recommendation of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).

The notification did not mention any change in the prices of kerosene and light diesel oil.

Petrol and HSD prices were estimated to increase by Rs 4-11 per liter over the next fortnight, due to the increase in international prices and import premium, marginal exchange rate appreciation.
