Constitutional experts say that it is not necessary to call the first session of the National Assembly within 21 days of the date of polling to take oath of the newly elected members.
Barrister Syed Numan Bukhari said that the Constitution has empowered the President to convene a session of the National Assembly on any date between February 22 and 28 for taking the oath.
He said that after the swearing-in ceremony, the National Assembly elects the Speaker and Deputy Speaker before electing the Prime Minister.
Barrister Numan Bukhari said that the President has no power to invite any person or party to form the government after the passage of the 18th constitutional amendment.
He said that coalition government is the best solution to deal with all the challenges including economy, climate change, poverty and illiteracy.
The analyst said that the Election Commission is bound to release the official results within 14 days of holding the general elections.
