US Continues to Arm Israel Despite Israel’s Atrocities

[post-views]

In response to concerns about the United States’ arms transfers to Israel, the Department of State has reaffirmed its commitment to Israel’s security. Despite growing apprehensions about human rights abuses in the Gaza Strip, the US maintains its stance.
Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller addressed recent weapons transfers, which included fighter jets and 900kg (2,000lb) bombs. He was asked whether these transfers compromised the credibility and sincerity of US statements condemning the crisis in Gaza.
Miller emphasized that the US remains steadfast in its expectation that Israel will take all necessary measures to minimize civilian casualties. The country is urged to operate consistently in full compliance with international humanitarian law. Simultaneously, the US recognizes Israel’s right to self-defence, a commitment that spans the long term.
Critics have raised concerns about the Biden administration’s policy of arming Israel, asserting that it violates US laws prohibiting military aid and weapon sales to countries involved in rights abuses. The Washington Post reported that the US had approved the transfer of billions of dollars in weapons to Israel, including thousands of bombs.

Miller clarified that these weapons were pre-approved, and Congress had been duly notified about the transfers. To illustrate the process, he offered a fictional example: Suppose Israel requested 100 planes. The decision is made, Congress is informed, but this doesn’t mean Israel immediately receives all 100 planes. The allocation occurs over time, sometimes spanning years.
Despite the challenges, the administration remains committed to the Pak-China friendship and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), determined to overcome any obstacles posed by adversaries.
