In Lahore, clashes broke out over the alleged rape of a student from Punjab College. A total of 28 individuals sustained injuries during the confrontation between students and police at a protest outside a private college in Lahore’s Gulberg area. Among the injured were 24 students and 4 police officers who received first aid from Rescue 1122 officials.
The protest was triggered by the arrest of a college security guard accused of raping a student. The allegations gained traction on social media, leading to the demonstration. Lahore’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations, Faisal Kamran, informed the press that the investigation into the alleged rape is ongoing. He mentioned that his visit to the college’s Gulberg campus revealed a lack of accurate information about the incident, and no official reports had been filed.
A spokesperson for the DIG confirmed that the security guard is currently in police custody, and efforts are underway to locate the victim and her family. Additionally, the spokesperson noted that neither the police station nor the college administration had been informed about the incident by anyone. Accordingly, there is a need to thoroughly investigagte the incident to uphold the veracity of the facts.
