Renowned religious scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani has lauded JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman for his pivotal contribution to the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which aims to eliminate Riba (interest) from Pakistan’s financial system. Usmani praised Fazl’s leadership during a crucial time, noting how it has helped achieve important Islamic objectives.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he expressed, “I can’t find the words to fully appreciate Maulana Fazlur Rehman today.” Usmani emphasized that Fazlur Rehman’s guidance has been instrumental in resolving key issues related to the Federal Shariat Court, religious schools, and the long-awaited removal of Riba.
He called the constitutional reform a source of immense joy for the nation and prayed for Fazl’s continued blessings in his life and contributions.
The 26th Constitutional Amendment, seen as a significant advancement for Islamic finance in Pakistan, stipulates the complete removal of Riba by January 1, 2028. This change modifies Article 38(f) of the Constitution and is a historic step towards aligning the country’s financial practices with Shariah principles, following a crucial ruling from the Federal Shariat Court on April 28, 2022.
