The Power Division has invited international competitive bids for the rehabilitation of the damaged Steam Turbine-16 (ST-16) and allied equipment at the 747MW Guddu Power Plant, a project expected to cut generation costs by Rs4.19 per unit while unlocking an additional 297MW of generation capacity.
According to a statement issued by the Power Division on Sunday, the rehabilitation would bring the plant’s generation cost down from Rs13.87 to Rs9.68 per unit. The Steam Turbine-16 and its associated generator have remained out of service since a fire damaged them in July 2022, forcing the plant to operate in open-cycle mode ever since.
