The Federal Cabinet has given the green light to the creation of the National Targeting Centre (NTC), aimed at supporting the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in modernizing border control processes and fighting smuggling, human trafficking, and money laundering.
During a recent meeting, the Revenue Division informed the cabinet that traditional border control methods were becoming ineffective due to the increasing flow of goods, passengers, and vehicles across the border. It was emphasized that advanced, technology-driven platforms like the NTC are essential for improving the management of cross-border movements and boosting enforcement capabilities.
The NTC will enable key agencies such as Customs, FIA, Immigration, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), and other law enforcement bodies to share data and coordinate efforts to tackle illegal activities.
Customs administrations around the world typically lead such centers because of their role in overseeing the movement of goods and people across borders.
The Revenue Division also mentioned that the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) system will serve as a key foundation for the NTC. Furthermore, a meeting in August 2024 had already secured the support of all relevant stakeholders.
The establishment of the NTC is expected to foster better collaboration between government agencies and enhance Pakistan’s border security.
