The Punjab Agriculture Department has announced a significant initiative that will provide farmers with agricultural machinery and equipment worth billions of rupees at a 60% subsidy, part of the chief minister’s mechanized farming program. Each farmer can receive subsidies of up to PKR 500,000.

To promote transparency in the selection process, district-level lotteries are being held with elected representatives overseeing the proceedings, based on specific quotas assigned to each district. A recent balloting ceremony in Multan selected farmers for subsidized machinery.

Out of 305 applications submitted from nine centers in Multan district, 238 were found eligible for the subsidy. After a fair lottery process, 27 farmers were chosen to receive the subsidized equipment.

Former Provincial Assembly member Rana Ejaz Ahmed Noon was the chief guest at the Multan event. He praised the “Transforming Punjab Agriculture Plan,” launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, calling it a groundbreaking initiative aimed at boosting crop productivity through mechanization. He noted that this subsidy program reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to supporting its farmers.

Noon also highlighted that mechanized farming would significantly enhance agricultural efficiency, allowing farmers to prepare land and harvest crops more effectively and promptly.

Haris Abdullah, the Director of Agricultural Engineering, stated that successful applicants will have the opportunity to select their preferred agricultural tools and machinery.
