AML chief demands transparency on US aid conditions

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the chief of Awami Muslim League (AML), has called on the government to be transparent with the public regarding the conditions set by the US for providing aid to Pakistan, which is currently facing a cash crunch.

This statement follows reports that Pakistan has sought the assistance of the United States to secure funds from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as there has been a delay in signing the staff-level agreement (SLA).

In a series of tweets, the former interior minister highlighted that Pakistan had not been included in the IMF’s schedule until March 30, as the Fund had demanded assurances on $7 billion in external finances. He also issued a warning that a civil war could break out in the country if the supremacy of the Constitution was not guaranteed. Additionally, he questioned why Pakistan cannot provide security, given that it is able to do so for Qatar and the United Nations.
