According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), there are currently 1,064,639 women entrepreneurs in Pakistan who are filing income tax returns and are listed as “Active Taxpayers.” However, this number has dropped significantly from 1,290,832 in 2023 to 100,247 in 2024.
FBR’s latest data, released on Monday, showed that the number of “Individual Active Women Taxpayers” reporting income from business activities decreased from 138,841 in 2023 to 100,247 in 2024. Additionally, there were 155,027 women filers included in the “Active Taxpayers List” (ATL) in total, with individual taxpayers making up the highest number.
The data also revealed that 22,088 “Active Taxpayers” were categorized as Associations of Persons (AOPs) with 50% or more women members. Furthermore, the number of companies with 50% or more women directors grew significantly from 20,671 in 2022 to 41,629 in 2024.
The FBR emphasized its commitment to promoting women’s entrepreneurship and supporting women-led businesses by publishing data on women entrepreneurs who are active income taxpayers. This data will be updated every six months and will be categorized into three groups:
- Individual Active Taxpayers who declare income from business, including those under the presumptive tax regime.
- Active Associations of Persons (AOPs) with at least 50% women members.
- Companies with at least 50% women directors.
