Future Wars Will Be Won by Technology, Not Trenches: Army Chief

[post-views]

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has said that future wars will be defined more by technology than by traditional battlefield maneuvers, as the Pakistan Army rapidly modernizes its combat doctrine. His remarks came during a visit to the Bahawalpur Garrison in southern Punjab, where he observed a high-intensity military exercise focused on integrating advanced technologies into conventional operations.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exercise—named Steadfast Resolve—featured unmanned aerial systems, modern surveillance platforms, electronic warfare tools, and networked command-and-control systems. The drills reflected the army’s shift toward what it described as “technology-enabled multi-domain operations.”

Addressing the troops, Field Marshal Munir said the character of warfare has changed dramatically due to technological advancements, requiring not only new equipment but also a profound shift in thinking at all levels of command. He noted that future conflicts would rely more on technological maneuvering than physical movement on the ground, fundamentally transforming both offensive and defensive strategies.

The army chief emphasized that Pakistan’s military is rapidly absorbing new technologies, with innovation, indigenization, and adaptation at the core of its future planning. He also reaffirmed that the armed forces remain fully prepared to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that modern warfare now spans physical, cyber, and electronic domains.
