Unfortunately, as is often the case with celebrity weddings, the recent nuptials of TV star Ushna Shah and professional golfer Hamza Amin garnered a lot of attention. However, what was surprising was that some of the headlines were negative.

As longtime family friends of the Amins, my wife and I had the pleasure of attending their wedding reception on a beautiful evening last week at a luxurious venue along Karachi’s creek. It was the perfect setting for the wedding of the year, with a star-studded guest list. But before long, a social media frenzy erupted, with trolls criticizing everything from the bride’s dress to the choice of music.

Then came the flood of misinformation, which even managed to rattle the typically composed Taimur Hassan Amin, the father of the groom. To make matters worse, Hamza was repeatedly referred to as an Australian golfer, despite his Austrian connection (his mother Heidi is Austrian). It seems that many in Pakistan are unaware of the difference.

For those who are unfamiliar with the accomplishments of the legendary Taimur and his son Hamza in the world of golf, let me give you a brief rundown. If golf were a popular sport in Pakistan, there would be no need for me to introduce Taimur, who is widely known in golfing circles as Timmy. He would be a household name in this country.
