Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has initiated a pre-planned sit-in in Islamabad, with many supporters gathering at I-8 on the Islamabad Expressway. Party leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman spearheaded the protest, which commenced with a brief speech by him at 26 Number.
During his address to the assembled crowd, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman strongly criticized the actions of the Punjab Police, who allegedly conducted raids on the homes of JI workers in an attempt to disrupt the protest.
He directed a rhetorical question to the government, questioning whether such strategies would bring an end to the sit-in.
“The sit-in has just begun and will continue here,” declared Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman. He condemned the government for imposing high electricity bills and introducing Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which he described as “power bombs” on the public.
He emphasized that the protest was not for personal gain but for the rights of the 250 million people of Pakistan.

The JI chief rallied the crowd, inquiring if they would extend the sit-in if necessary. He cautioned the government to release the detained JI workers, stating, “Our flood will not stop; we are peaceful people.”
The JI leader outlined the sit-in’s demands, including the closure of IPPs and a reduction in electricity tariffs. He reiterated that the protest had just commenced and would continue until their demands were met.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman announced the implementation of Plan B, revealing that the next move would be to Murree Road to showcase the party’s strength. He also indicated that if the resistance continued, he would lead the protest to D Chowk.
