Government Cuts Petrol and Diesel Prices

[post-views]

The federal government has announced a reduction in petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices for the next fortnight, effective January 1, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), petrol prices have been lowered by Rs10.28 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs253.17. HSD has been reduced by Rs8.57 per litre, now priced at Rs257.08.

The decision follows recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). Previously, petrol was sold at Rs263.45 per litre and diesel at Rs265.65.

Petroleum product prices in Pakistan are revised every two weeks, taking into account global oil market trends and foreign exchange rate fluctuations. This latest adjustment reflects a temporary relief for consumers amid volatile international fuel prices.

The government’s fortnightly pricing mechanism aims to balance domestic fuel affordability with the financial sustainability of the energy sector.
