A three-member mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will soon visit Pakistan to conduct a Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment as part of the country’s 2024 Extended Fund Facility program, according to the finance ministry. Although specific dates were not provided, the assessment aims to evaluate the state of corruption vulnerabilities across key government functions.

The ministry stated that the resulting report will offer recommendations to address corruption risks and strengthen governance, which will play a vital role in shaping future structural reforms. The mission will focus on six core areas: fiscal governance, central bank operations, financial sector oversight, market regulation, rule of law, and anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML-CFT).

Pakistan, currently benefiting from a $7 billion IMF facility granted in September, is in the process of economic recovery. The government has expressed support for the IMF’s technical assistance, stating that the assessment will help enhance transparency and institutional capacity. The IMF is scheduled to review Pakistan’s progress by March, and both the government and central bank remain optimistic about meeting their targets.
