Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to mediate and reduce tensions in the Middle East, while avoiding direct comments on the recent ceasefire extension announced by the United States. He acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic role in trying to end the conflict and promote regional peace, but emphasized that Iran remains focused on protecting its own national interests and security.
Baqaei stated that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the country against any threats. He also underlined that diplomacy remains an option, but only when conditions are suitable and beneficial for Iran. According to him, Iran did not start the conflict and has acted strictly in self-defense against actions by the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire, citing Pakistan’s request and ongoing efforts to reach a unified proposal from Iran’s leadership. Despite this, tensions remain high, with disagreements over a U.S. maritime blockade and restrictions linked to Iran.
Uncertainty continues over future talks, as both sides have yet to confirm participation in the next round of negotiations, leaving the peace process at a delicate standstill.
