A US defense official has confirmed that an Israeli-owned ship was the target of a suspected drone attack by Iran in the Indian Ocean. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the ship suffered minor damage and no one was injured in the incident.

According to the official, the drone that attacked the ship was a Shahed-136 UAV, a type of unmanned aerial vehicle that is operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite military force of Iran. The IRGC has been accused of carrying out several attacks on commercial vessels in the region in recent years, as part of its proxy war with Israel and its allies.

The ship that was attacked was identified as the MV Hyperion Ray, a cargo vessel that is owned by an Israeli company and flies the flag of the Bahamas. The ship was sailing from Tanzania to the United Arab Emirates when it was hit by the drone near the coast of Oman, according to AFP. The ship continued its voyage after the attack and reached its destination safely.
