Frustrated by the government’s actions, Dr. Kaiser Bengali, a member of three government committees, has resigned from all his positions.
Dr. Bengali stated that he decided to quit the government committees because he felt that the government was not showing a serious commitment to reducing its expenses.
The committees from which Dr. Kaiser Bengali resigned are the Austerity Committee, the Right Sizing Committee, and the Government Expenditure Committee. He has sent his resignation to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Cabinet Secretary Kamran Afzal.
Dr. Bengali pointed out that these committees had suggested that the government should eliminate 17 divisions and 50 departments, but the government failed to implement these recommendations honestly. Instead, he accused the government of taking actions that were contrary to these suggestions.

He also criticized the government for laying off lower-ranking employees to cut expenses while protecting the jobs of higher-ranking officers. Dr. Bengali mentioned that the government could save approximately Rs30 billion by eliminating officer positions from departments, but instead, it was cutting jobs of employees in Grades 1 to 16, which, according to him, would further harm the economy.
According to Dr. Bengali, the country’s economy is in critical condition, and he warned that the IMF and other financial institutions were hesitant to provide additional loans to Pakistan, while the financial situations of families have been severely impacted, leading some individuals to take drastic actions.
