Minister Ahsan Iqbal Seeks Trade, Not Loans, from China and Saudi Arabia

Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister for Planning Development & Special Initiatives, emphasized that Pakistan is aiming for trade, not loans, from China and Saudi Arabia. He mentioned that both countries have consistently supported Pakistan without conditions during times of need. Additionally, negotiations with the IMF are ongoing, and an agreement is expected to be reached soon.

A press conference held in Lahore saw the federal minister highlighting the progress made in the Pakistani economy under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership. He mentioned that through the SIFC, four countries have committed $27 billion in investments for Pakistan, which will be integrated into the economy over the next two to three years.

The press conference was attended by Secretary General of The Institution of Engineers Pakistan Engineer Amir Zamir Ahmed Khan and Engineer Usman Farooq.

Ahsan Iqbal discouraged disruptive actions and emphasized the need for any party with a plan for economic recovery to share it. He also assured that the energy crisis would be controlled within a year and announced upcoming investigations into irregularities in the Engineers Council elections.

Ahsan Iqbal highlighted an upcoming comprehensive five-year plan to revitalize Pakistan’s economy, spearheaded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He stressed the importance of avoiding chaos and instability for progress and development and urged traders to contribute to the country’s progress by paying taxes.

He discouraged protests and strikes, stating the ill effects on the national economy. This announcement comes amidst Pakistan’s efforts to revive its economy while grappling with inflation, energy shortages, and political unrest.
