ISLAMABAD — Pakistan on Saturday strongly denounced the India-Afghanistan joint statement issued in New Delhi, calling the reference to Jammu and Kashmir a blatant breach of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and international law.
The Foreign Office described the statement as “insensitive to the sacrifices of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” reaffirming their right to self-determination under UNSC mandates. Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary (West Asia & Afghanistan) also summoned Afghanistan’s ambassador to register a formal protest.
The protest followed Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s six-day visit to India — the first by a Taliban leader since 2021 — during which India announced reopening its embassy in Kabul. Pakistan said this diplomatic alignment undermines regional peace and ignores ground realities in Kashmir.
Islamabad also rejected Muttaqi’s claim that terrorism is an internal matter for Pakistan, stressing that credible evidence has been shared with Kabul on the presence of “Fitna-e-Khawarij and Fitna-e-Hindustan” groups operating from Afghan soil with foreign backing.
Reaffirming decades of support for Afghans, Pakistan maintained that peace in the region depends on Kabul preventing its territory from being used for terrorism. Islamabad urged the interim Afghan government to take concrete measures to stop anti-Pakistan elements and uphold regional stability.
