ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, has called upon the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the Secretary-General to work towards a “peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute” in accordance with UN resolutions and the desires of the Kashmiri people.

During the closing session of the preparatory meeting held in Islamabad from August 30-31 ahead of the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting, General Munir, who was the chief guest, made these remarks. The preparatory session, focused on the theme of “Safety and Security of Peacekeepers,” was jointly hosted by Pakistan and Japan. It was attended by delegates from various countries, senior UN officials, and diplomats stationed in Islamabad.

General Munir commended the UN’s role in maintaining international peace and drew attention to the escalating challenges and unprecedented threats faced by peacekeeping missions. He emphasized the need for the UN to enhance the effectiveness of peacekeeping missions in addressing complex threats while ensuring the safety and security of peacekeepers, often referred to as “blue helmets.”
