Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, is gearing up to participate in the qualifying round of the javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics. With six fellow Olympians already out of the competition, Pakistan’s hopes for an Olympic gold after 36 years now rest on Nadeem.
Having secured nine international medals, including four golds, Nadeem finds himself pitted against India’s gold medalist Neeraj Chopra in Group B. The Group B competition is scheduled to commence at 2:50 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST), with Arshad set to make his throw fifth. To advance to the medal round on August 8, Nadeem must achieve a minimum throw of 84 meters in accordance with the rules.
Nadeem gained recognition after securing the fifth position in the Tokyo Olympics. In 2022, he replicated this success by finishing fifth in the World Championship held in the United States. Nadeem further showcased his prowess by setting a Commonwealth Games record with an impressive throw of 90.18 meters, ultimately clinching the gold in Birmingham.

Following subsequent elbow and left knee surgeries in London, Nadeem underwent a period of recovery before making a comeback at the 34th National Games in Quetta in May. Despite concerns over his fitness, Nadeem triumphed by securing a gold for his departmental team, Wapda. His journey faced a setback when he sustained a knee injury, preventing him from participating in the recent Asian Championship in Bangkok.
