Pakistan’s PTI Leaders Take Oath to End Infighting and Maintain Secrecy

The leaders of Pakistan’s ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have made a solemn oath on the Holy Quran. This oath signifies their unwavering commitment to end infighting and maintain the utmost secrecy of decisions made by the party’s core and political apex committees. This significant development was accompanied by directives from the party’s top leadership, urging members to refrain from commenting on the PTI chief’s messages or internal party disputes.

Amidst internal conflicts sparked by questions raised by several core committee members, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan took decisive action. He personally conveyed the messages of the incarcerated PTI founder to Omar Ayub Khan and Shibli Faraz, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to resolving the tensions within the party.

During a PTI huddle conducted via video link, Gohar voiced his concerns. He expressed doubts that the oath on the Holy Quran would be sufficient to prevent the leakage of important discussions among party leaders. Gohar also highlighted the need for PTI leaders to assess the critical situation following the imprisonment of the party founder, Imran Khan. He stressed the importance of maintaining discipline by refraining from disclosing key party decisions to the public.

Gohar demanded that authorities concerned allow a medical examination of the former first lady, Bushra Bibi, at Shaukat Khanum Hospital to ascertain facts regarding the suspected administration of a “poisonous substance” to her during her detention at the Bani Gala sub-jail. He also slammed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for failing to fulfil its constitutional responsibility. Gohar said that the ECP was converting the victory of PTI candidates into defeat after the 2024 nationwide polls.

Regarding PTI leader Shehryar Afridi, who publicly showed dismay over top leadership’s decisions, Barrister Gohar said that the PTI leader had made many sacrifices and was still their leader. He requested Afridi to raise objections using an appropriate party platform.

The PTI chairman added that the party founder would make decisions regarding the return of those politicians who announced to quit the party via press conferences or delivered “negative statements.” The decisions regarding such politicians would be taken after Khan’s release from jail.

Shehryar Afridi’s Allegations

The reports of increased internal conflicts among PTI leaders were strengthened after the recent statement of party stalwart Afridi, who said that there were some “hypocrites” still a part of the Imran Khan-founded party. Afridi blasted the leadership, saying that there were some “snakes” and “hypocrites” who were part of the PTI and whoever betrays the party would be excluded from it.

Afridi made these comments after he applied for the Senator’s seat, but his name was rejected by PTI’s senior leadership, including Omar Ayub Khan, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Ali Amin Gandapur. Recently, Marwat and Khan’s close aide Salman Ahmad engaged in a war of words on social media platform X after the latter called the former “wrong number.”
