In a recent development, President Dr. Arif Alvi has written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging him to ensure the implementation of the Supreme Court’s orders regarding the general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The electoral watchdog had recently postponed the upcoming elections in Punjab, initially scheduled for April 30th, due to security reasons.

In the letter, the president emphasized the need for all concerned authorities to refrain from abusing human rights and assist the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in holding the general elections within the designated timeframe. He also stressed the importance of complying with the apex court’s order to avoid any further complications, including contempt of court.

As the head of the government, the prime minister has a responsibility to safeguard the fundamental rights of every citizen of Pakistan, as stated in the Constitution. The president further highlighted recent events of glaring violations of fundamental and human rights that have been reported in the media and urged the premier to take remedial measures and preventive action.

It is important for the government to take swift action to ensure that the upcoming elections are held as scheduled and in a fair and transparent manner. The safety and security of citizens should also be a top priority, and measures should be taken to address any potential security concerns.
