The Islamabad High Court received a contempt of court petition on Thursday filed by senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, alleging that Adiala Jail authorities have consistently blocked access to the party’s founder, Imran Khan, in violation of prior court orders.
Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, and Senate Opposition Leader, Shibli Faraz, filed the petition after completing their biometric verification at the court. The petition claims that the jail authorities have repeatedly prevented PTI leaders from meeting with the incarcerated former prime minister, despite a ruling by a larger bench of the court allowing such meetings.
This fresh petition revives a legal challenge that was filed earlier but had not been scheduled for a hearing. PTI officials contend that the actions of Adiala Jail authorities were deliberate and in contempt of the court’s previous decision, which permitted meetings with Imran Khan.
In addition to the PTI leaders, Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, along with Akhunzada Hussain from the Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain, appeared at the court in support of the petition. Earlier in the week, seven PTI leaders, including Khan’s sisters, were briefly detained by authorities outside Adiala Jail when they attempted to visit him.
The Islamabad High Court’s response to this latest contempt petition could set important precedents for prison protocol, judicial authority, and the rights of political figures to access detainees.
