LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced plans to extend modern municipal services to rural areas under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Model Village Programme. In the first phase of the initiative, 469 villages across 10 divisions of Punjab have been selected to benefit from improved local infrastructure and essential civic facilities.
The progress of the Model Village Programme, along with the Lahore Development Programme, was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique on Saturday. The meeting focused on implementation strategies and the pace of ongoing work to ensure timely delivery of services in the selected villages.
Senior officials from the local government department attended the session, including Punjab Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Special Secretary Development Asia Gul, Special Secretary Local Government Arshad Baig, and Additional Secretary Development Ahmer Kaifi. The officials discussed coordination among departments and measures needed to achieve the programme’s objectives.
The government says the initiative reflects its broader commitment to improving the quality of life in rural Punjab by bringing urban-style municipal services to villages and strengthening local governance at the grassroots level.
