On January 24th, the Supreme Court of Pakistan will hear identical appeals calling for an investigation into an alleged “threatening letter” that claims to be a part of an international scheme to oust former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.

The appeals, filed by advocates Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta, Syed Tariq Badar, and Naeemul Hassan, will be heard by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and challenge the objections made by the Registrar of the Supreme Court regarding the petitions.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan had previously presented the letter at a public gathering of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers on March 27, 2022, claiming it was evidence of an “international conspiracy” being devised to overthrow his government.

Advocate Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta then submitted a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, naming the Federation of Pakistan and the law secretary as respondents.

He argued that this unusual situation could disrupt the country’s peace and order by inciting hostility against friendly countries, and implored the Supreme Court to direct the respondents to deliver the letter to civil and military officials for examination.
