Severe Heatwave Alert Issued by NDMA for Punjab and Sindh

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a severe heatwave alert for various parts of the country, with a particular focus on Punjab and Sindh, starting from next week. The NDMA released a statement, shared on social media, specifying that heatwave conditions are expected to emerge over most areas of the country, particularly Punjab and Sindh, from May 21. These conditions are likely to escalate into severe heatwave conditions from May 23 to May 27.

According to the statement, daytime temperatures in Punjab and Sindh are projected to be 4-6°C above normal from May 21 to May 23, reaching approximately 35-40°C. Furthermore, temperatures are anticipated to soar even higher, 6-8°C above normal, from May 23 to May 27, potentially exceeding 45°C. In addition, daytime temperatures in Islamabad, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the State of AJ&K are expected to remain 4-6°C above normal from May 21 to May 27, around 35-40°C.

Moreover, the NDMA indicated that a shallow westerly wave might impact the upper regions of the country from May 16 to May 19, leading to anticipated dust storms, thunderstorms, and rainfall.
