WASHINGTON: A helicopter “mishap” in northeast Syria left twenty-two US service members injured on Sunday, as confirmed by the US military late on Monday. The cause of the incident remains undisclosed, and the severity of the injuries has not been specified.

According to the US military’s Central Command, ten service members were subsequently transferred to higher-level care facilities outside the region.

Central Command, responsible for overseeing US troops in the Middle East, stated that no enemy fire was reported. However, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Requests for additional information from officials at US Central Command have yet to be answered.

As part of the mission to combat the remnants of Daesh, approximately 900 US personnel are currently deployed in Syria, with the majority stationed in the eastern region. In recent years, American troops have faced repeated attacks by Iran-backed militia forces.
