The Significance of a Professional Army for a Nation; A Case of Palestine

[post-views]

The recent incidents between Israel and Palestine have once again proven the significance of a professional army for a nation. Palestinians are not allowed to raise and maintain a professional army; therefore, they find it more challenging to maintain peace and equilibrium. Accordingly, a professional army is critical for a nation for the safety of sovereignty and protection of the people.

A professional army is critical for the safety of a nation because it provides a reliable and effective defence against external threats, as well as a source of stability and deterrence within the nation. A professional army is composed of well-trained, disciplined, and motivated soldiers who are loyal to the nation and its values. A professional army also has the necessary equipment, technology, and resources to carry out its missions and protect its interests.
The case of Palestine illustrates the importance of having a professional army for the safety of a nation. Palestine is a stateless nation that has been under Israeli occupation since 1967. The Palestinian people have been subjected to various forms of oppression, violence, and discrimination by the Israeli authorities and settlers. The Palestinian resistance movement has been largely fragmented and ineffective, relying on sporadic attacks by militant groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

These groups often use indiscriminate and disproportionate violence against Israel in terms of retaliation, which further provokes harsh retaliation by the Israeli military. And, without a professional army, Palestinians remain at a loss. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has resulted in thousands of casualties, widespread destruction, and humanitarian crises on both sides.

A professional army could have helped Palestine achieve its national aspirations and secure its safety in several ways: A professional army could have provided a unified and legitimate representation of the Palestinian people and their struggle for self-determination. A professional army could have also established a clear chain of command, a code of conduct, and a strategic vision for the resistance movement. A professional army could have improved the military capabilities and performance of the Palestinian fighters. A professional army could have trained them in modern warfare techniques, equipped them with advanced weapons and technology, and coordinated their operations across different fronts. A professional army could have enhanced the credibility and reputation of the Palestinian cause in the international arena.

A professional army could have adhered to the rules of war, avoided targeting civilians, and sought diplomatic solutions with Israel and other actors. A professional army could have also gained recognition and support from other states and organizations that value professionalism and legitimacy in the armed forces.
Therefore, a professional army is critical for the safety of a nation, as it can offer protection, security, and dignity to its people. Palestine is an example of a nation that lacks a professional army and suffers from the consequences of this deficiency.
