The United Nations and a wide array of countries on Tuesday strongly denounced Israel’s Sept 9 strike on Hamas leaders in Doha, branding it a grave breach of international law and a threat to regional peace. UN rights chief Volker Turk described the attack as “a shocking breach of international law” during an urgent Human Rights Council debate, stressing the need for accountability over unlawful killings.
Qatar’s Minister of International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, condemned the strike as a “treacherous attack” aimed at undermining Qatar’s diplomatic role. She urged the international community to take practical steps to hold Israel accountable and prevent its impunity.
Pakistan’s ambassador Bilal Ahmad warned that the assault was an “unjustifiable and unprovoked” act, constituting a dangerous escalation in the ongoing crisis. His words echoed the broader concerns of Muslim states that see the strike as a direct attempt to derail mediation efforts.
China’s envoy Chen Xu also denounced the strike as a deliberate effort to obstruct the ceasefire negotiation process, while South Africa warned it undermined international mediation and revealed Israel’s unwillingness to end its “genocidal war” in Gaza.
