Weekly SPI Inflation Drops 0.65% as Prices of Key Commodities Fall: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics Report (January 9, 2025)

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based inflation for the week ending January 9, 2025, saw a decline of 0.65%, driven by price drops in essential items such as tomatoes (down 31.40%), potatoes (down 10.36%), eggs (down 5.96%), pulse gram (down 1.64%), and LPG (down 0.14%), according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

On a year-on-year basis, SPI inflation increased by 1.90%, largely due to higher prices of items like ladies’ sandals (up 75.09%), potatoes (up 58.76%), pulse gram (up 42.11%), and moong (up 34.15%), while key price drops were observed in onions (down 36.25%), wheat flour (down 36.17%), and eggs (down 24.07%).

For the week under review, 35.29% of the 51 monitored items saw price increases, 19.61% experienced price reductions, and 45.10% remained stable.

Additionally, SPI for the week stood at 323.97 points, down from 326.10 points the previous week, with notable declines in the consumption groups across various price ranges.
