The World Bank Board of Executive Directors has approved $700 million in financing for the Pakistan Public Resources for Inclusive Development – Multiphase Programmatic Approach (PRID-MPA), a multi-year initiative to support macroeconomic stability and service delivery. The program aims to improve spending quality and use data and digital tools to enhance public services.
The PRID-MPA aligns with the IMF Extended Fund Facility program and the National Fiscal Pact. Total financing under the initiative is up to $1.35 billion, with $600 million for federal programs and $100 million specifically for Sindh. The program follows a results-based design, releasing funds only after objectives are achieved.
The federal component will focus on fairer revenue mobilization, better budget planning, subsidy reforms, and strengthened statistical systems. Key measures include advancing tax reforms, scaling the Integrated Financial Management Information System and e-procurement, and improving national data systems for evidence-based decision-making.
In Sindh, the program targets higher provincial revenues, faster and transparent payments, and greater use of data to guide decision-making. The initiative seeks to ensure public resources reach frontline services, improving healthcare and education funding while fostering accountability and efficiency across Pakistan’s fiscal and governance systems.
