U.S. Opposes Israeli Strikes in Syria Following Ceasefire Efforts

[post-views]

The United States on Thursday voiced opposition to recent Israeli airstrikes in Syria, just a day after Washington played a role in brokering a deal to end the latest round of violence.

“We do not support the recent Israeli strikes,” said State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce during a press briefing.

Bruce added that the U.S. is pursuing high-level diplomatic engagement with both Israel and Syria in an effort to address the immediate crisis and work toward a lasting resolution between the two nations.

She declined to comment on whether Washington had formally conveyed its displeasure to Tel Aviv or if it would oppose any future Israeli military actions in Syria.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed concern when questioned about the strikes, which reportedly included targeting Syria’s Ministry of Defence in Damascus. However, in a later statement, Rubio avoided direct mention of the Israeli strikes and instead called for restraint amid the broader violence in the region.

Israel, for its part, said its intervention was aimed at protecting the Druze community, citing communal clashes as justification.
