The United States’ decision to designate the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and its militant wing, the Majeed Brigade, as global terrorist organisations marks a significant diplomatic achievement for Pakistan. This move not only strengthens Islamabad’s international counterterrorism position but also underscores global recognition of the violent and destabilising role these groups play in Balochistan and beyond.

The designation is particularly crucial given Balochistan’s strategic and political context. As per Pakistan’s federal structure, enshrined in the Constitution, the province is entitled to full political, financial, administrative, and cultural rights. Strict adherence to Schedule Four of the Constitution is essential to ensure that the people of Balochistan feel fully integrated into the federation. Addressing historical grievances through equitable resource distribution, representation, and cultural preservation is a constitutional duty, not a political favour.

However, no federal system can condone armed violence aimed at secession.
