CPEC to Transform Afghanistan’s Role in Regional Trade and Development

[post-views]

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is set to open extensive opportunities for socio-economic development and enhanced regional connectivity for Afghanistan, according to Zafar Iqbal, Acting President of the Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI). Speaking at a think-tank session at the PCJCCI Secretariat, Iqbal emphasized that CPEC will be a transformative factor for Afghanistan, establishing the country as a key player in the region’s evolving trade and transit ecosystem.

As countries like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and other Central Asian Republics seek to use Gwadar Port, Afghanistan stands to gain significantly from increased transit trade, infrastructure development, and connectivity. Iqbal pointed out that Afghanistan is no longer isolated as a landlocked country; with the integration of CPEC, it will become a vital land-linked corridor connecting Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. This strategic position will play a crucial role in Afghanistan’s economic and trade growth, unlocking new avenues for regional cooperation and development.
